January was an exciting month at Summer Search.
Our high school mentors have been busy deepening their relationships with our students, helping them integrate the reflections from their summer experiences into their lives, while also placing juniors on their second summer programs and preparing to welcome a whole new class of sophomores to Summer Search. Our College Access and Success mentors were also hard at work supporting students with college applications, financial aid, and their pursuits of their bachelor’s degrees. Plus, we announced a cool partnership with Chris Long and Michelle Obama, and we celebrated National Mentoring Month!
We were also excited to welcome two new senior leaders to the organization: Nick Hutchinson, our Chief Operating Officer, and Ching Tao, Vice President of Finance.
Nick and Ching have definitely hit the ground running to start the new year, and while the two of them have been busy getting to know Summer Search, they were kind enough to answer a few questions to help our Summer Search community get to know them. Continue reading Meet Nick and Ching
“For over 20 years, I witnessed the power that came from telling your story. For the person brave enough to share their story, and for the people who are fortunate enough to be in their presence.”
In the story of Summer Search, Katherine Kennedy has played many important roles. She was our founder Linda Mornell’s first hire in 1995, she was a mentor, an executive director, a fundraising guru, and a speech coach—helping students and alumni tell their story in front of hundreds of people at Summer Search signature events.
Katherine left Summer Search at the end of 2015 to start a new chapter in her professional career. Now, nearly two years later, we caught up with her to see what she has been up to, and how she is staying connected to Summer Search. Continue reading Storytelling with Katherine Kennedy
At Summer Search, we’re all about creating opportunities. We offer our students exposure to experiences they might not otherwise have, which we are able to do thanks in large part to the generous support from our partners.

At Summer Search, we are fortunate to have several corporate partners that generously support us and our students.
One such company is the financial services giant State Street Corporation, which over the years has developed a rich and unique partnership with Summer Search Boston.
The partnership began in 2006, and since then State Street has contributed nearly $300,000 to Summer Search through event sponsorship, grants and matching gifts! Continue reading State Street: Investing In Our Leaders
At Summer Search, the work we do is important, and it isn’t easy. That’s why we are so grateful to have such an amazing and talented team of superstars who are dedicated to helping young people soar.
We are also grateful, and extremely honored, to have recently been named one of the “50 Best Nonprofits to Work For” by The NonProfit Times for the fourth year in a row! What makes this designation extra special is that it comes from our staff, as these rankings are derived from a nationwide survey of staff members at nonprofit organizations. As Presidents Day approaches, we thought it would be fun to share a few of our favorite presidential quotes. And while there have been many great words of wisdom from the White House over the years, we decided on focus on five that also reflect some of our values and ideals here at Summer Search.

As part of National Mentoring Month, today we’re continuing to celebrate “I am a Mentor Day,” when mentors everywhere are encouraged to share their stories about why they do what they do, and the impact that being a mentor has had on their lives. #NationalMentoringMonth
