‘Tis the season for giving thanks!
Here at Summer Search, we love saying “thank you.” In fact, one of our core values is to “say ‘Thank You’ seven times.”
But why seven times? This concept came from our founder Linda Mornell, who never asked for more support until she said “thank you,” seven times. So, while this idea was initially conceived as a fundraising tactic, it has inspired an organizational-wide culture of gratitude.
In that spirit, here are seven messages of thanks, from seven great, and grateful, Summer Searchers. #ThankYouX7

With SAT season getting underway next week (the first test of the new academic year is Oct. 3!!), high school students across the country are preparing to take the nation’s most widely used college admission test.
For those of us who have already taken the SATs, each year we breathe a sigh of relief for the fact that we no longer have to spend time memorizing formidable (causing fear or apprehension) lists of vocabulary words.

One of the many great things about the work that we do is getting to see our Summer Searchers grow right before our eyes. We like to say that we build “constellations of support” for each student that joins Summer Search. The anchor of that support comes from our professional mentors, who work side-by-side with our rising stars to advise, coach and challenge them on their paths towards college success.

As we highlighted in a previous post, wilderness programs make up about 58% of our 2015 summer trips. One recent wilderness trip, organized by Outward Bound California (OBCA), took a group of students from our three Bay Area sites for two weeks of backpacking and rock climbing in the Sierra National Forest.

One of the cornerstones of the Summer Search model is, as our name suggests, our summer trips! We send our students on two challenging summer experiences during their sophomore and junior years of high school. These trips give our young travelers the chance to take healthy risks, develop their leadership skills and discover strength and confidence that they never knew they had. Basically, they find their inner superstar… and soar! #LifeChanging
Starting June 8, our students began departing on their 2015 summer trips. Here is a snapshot of our entire summer.
