NFL-Sized Support

The 2016 National Football League (NFL) season is in full swing! It’s the time of year when fans all over the country, including many of our own students, alumni, staff, and supporters, take pride in rooting for their favorite teams.

Each NFL team, as well as the league itself, also takes pride in giving back to the communities in which they play and represent.

Last year, we were incredibly fortunate to have been chosen as one of the Super Bowl 50 Fund’s game-changing organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This season, Summer Search is again fortunate to be receiving similarly game-changing support from two different NFL teams! Continue reading NFL-Sized Support

Shared Values: The “Makeup” of a Great Partnership with The Estée Lauder Companies

At Summer Search, we’re all about creating opportunities. We offer our students exposure to experiences they might not otherwise have, which we are able to do thanks in large part to the generous support from our partners.

Summer Search New York City’s partnership with the leading global prestige beauty company The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) is a model example. Continue reading Shared Values: The “Makeup” of a Great Partnership with The Estée Lauder Companies

Conversations on Mentoring

At Summer Search, mentoring is a huge part of what we do and why our students are successful. We partner each Summer Searcher with a staff mentor who builds an authentic and long-lasting relationship in order to provide individualized support to help them succeed, not only at school, but at home and in their communities.

We’re fortunate to have recently had two high profile opportunities to step forward as a leader in the field, alongside a few of our partners, and share our mentoring stories. Continue reading Conversations on Mentoring

Seattle Summer Reflections, Part 1

Each summer, our students receive scholarships at the end of their sophomore and junior years in high school to embark on experiential education programs — ranging from wilderness expeditions, to college stays, to international service trips — in order to help broaden their world view and expand what they believe is possible for themselves.

In fact this summer, we are sending more than 1,000 students all over the world! That adds up to a lot of airfare. Continue reading Seattle Summer Reflections, Part 1

State Street: Investing In Our Leaders

At Summer Search, we are fortunate to have several corporate partners that generously support us and our students.

One such company is the financial services giant State Street Corporation, which over the years has developed a rich and unique partnership with Summer Search Boston.

The partnership began in 2006, and since then State Street has contributed nearly $300,000 to Summer Search through event sponsorship, grants and matching gifts! Continue reading State Street: Investing In Our Leaders

Alexis: Game Changer

In 2015, Summer Search became a proud recipient of the Super Bowl 50 Fund’s “Game Changer” Award, a $500,000 grant over three years to support our Bay Area students. As the name suggests, this grant is a real game changer for our Bay Area sites, as it will allow us to serve even more students who are, in turn, changing the game and the status quo for their own lives and their communities.

One such game changer is Alexis Flores.

When we first met Alexis, he was as a self-conscious 15 year-old who was buried in his schoolwork and chores, unaware of the opportunities around him and unsure of his own leadership potential. Continue reading Alexis: Game Changer

AT&T and Summer Search: Changing the Narrative for Young Men of Color

Guest post written by Robin White, AT&T’s NYC Area Manager of External Affairs.

Last week I had the honor of speaking on a panel at the Summer Search Annual Meeting about AT&T’s commitment to supporting college readiness programs, including Summer Search’s effort to increase support of Males of Color in their program. Summer Search is a game changer for students, and AT&T is proud to support their work.
